Live TV always comes with its share of surprises, and reporters have to be ready for anything.

Detroit reporter Nima Shaffe learned this firsthand when an adorable stray kitten decided to make its television debut during his broadcast. Let’s dive into the story!

Nima Shaffe, a seasoned reporter for WXYZ Channel 7, knows to expect the unexpected during live newscasts.

While covering a story on Gun Safety Week in Washtenaw County, a little white and orange kitten stole the show, meowing for some attention right in the middle of his report.

After finishing the broadcast, Nima and his crew set out to find out more about their unexpected visitor. Turns out, the kitten was a stray with no one to look after it.

The crew didn’t waste any time sharing this cute interruption with the world. Nima’s photojournalist, Andy Zaremba, posted a picture of the kitten on his social media, captioning it:

“We had a surprise at our live shot this morning…”

The kitten quickly won over hearts online, with people inquiring about its safety and if it had found a home. Nima updated everyone, assuring that the kitten was doing just fine.

Later that day, Nima introduced the little scene-stealer to the Channel 7 news anchors, who were all excited to meet the kitten. He recounted the morning’s events, saying:

“He (the kitten) greeted photojournalist Andy Zaremba and I here on the parking lot. He’s been pretty vocal, he tried to take over my time, and he has been hanging out underneath our truck, and we sort of have taken him under our wing.”

Nima also mentioned that he and Andy immediately got in touch with the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office. One of the officers immediately came to check on the feline star of the show.

Nima told the news team and viewers that the kitten was now in the care of the Humane Society of Huron Valley, who were more than happy to help.

In a nod to WHYZ-TV Channel 7, they named their newcomer Lucky 7.

Tanya Hilgendorf, the CEO of the Humane Society of Huron Valley, said that Lucky was examined by a veterinarian, vaccinated, treated for worms and parasites, and placed in a loving foster home.

She added that Lucky 7, once all grown up, will be available for adoption.

Why did Lucky 7 choose to meow so loudly during Nima’s live broadcast? Maybe she had enough of the tough street life and wanted to air her own rescue mission.
