Aaron Dodsworth’s 1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Story

I met Aaron Dodsworth on Facebook as he posted couple of photos under one of my Chevrolet Monte Carlo posts. As you can imagine, I get a lot of people posting their car photos in the comments. I do appreciate these, and try to reply to all. When I saw Aaron posting not one, but two beautiful Monte Carlos, I just had to ask him if he would be interested in doing a story on his Chevys.

When I asked him which one he would like to do first? He said that’s like trying to pick a favorite child. So we decided to start with the 1970 Monte Carlo as he owns it for 26 years, and I hope we can do the ’71 SS 454 in near future.

Like most teenagers in the 90’s Aaron wanted to have a muscle car, but didn’t really put any efforts to search for one or get educated as he didn’t have much money at the time. He was happy driving his dad’s 1976 Cutlass, and knew nothing about Chevrolet Monte Carlos, but that was about to change.

While visiting car dealers in the Vancouver area of BC with a friend who was looking for a used car, Aaron saw a beautiful ride parked at the back corner of the lot. He was just saying to his friend how much he likes it, when the salesman approached them and said it was his personal car. A 350 V8 powered 1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo with original paint and interior, showing just 47,000 miles, which was also for sale for $4,200.

“For the next two weeks all I could think about was that 1970 Chevy Monte Carlo, so my Dad and I went to give it a closer look. The paint and vinyl top were in good condition for the age of the car. The interior looked very nice and clean with a cloth bench. I had it inspected by a classic car restorer mechanic in my Dad’s Corvette club, and his words to me were: “If you don’t buy it, I will” which is all I needed to hear”

In 1996 Aaron became the proud owner of this Turquoise 1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Fast forward to the early 2000’s the car was repainted, and Aaron was married. While doing some research online he came across the First Generation Monte Carlo Club website. Excited to see so much information at one place, Aaron joined the forum, and shorty after that became a club member. He started to attend the FGMCC meetups in the Northwest, which were pretty small at the time. The club only had the one annual meet in the East, so Aaron decided to create an unofficial meet out West in 2004.

He picked Carson city, Nevada for the event as it was somewhat in the middle for those in the Northwest and Southwest. Aaron drove the 1970 Chevy Monte Carlo 2,000 miles round trip, and was more than happy with its performance. The gathering he initiated became the first official Western Meet followed by many more FGMCC members events all over the Western US and Canada.

“Who knew that this 1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo would take me in the direction of such great group of people in the FGMCC. I have made some long term friendships, and created great memories throughout the years. It all started with a simple sighting of a nice car 100 feet away”
