The sisters were on their way back home when they noticed Honey. Amanda recalls the moment with clarity, “I asked my sister if we should turn around for the puppy, and she instantly agreed. I was already in the process, driven by a shared, unspoken agreement that we had to help.”

Gaining Trust

Approaching Honey was a delicate dance, with Nicole stepping out of the car to gently coax the frightened canine. The sound of pretzels rustling was the turning point, leading to a tender exchange that ended with Honey safely in their arms, wrapped in a beach towel.

The Journey of Care

With a long drive ahead, the sisters made stops to bathe Honey, revealing the neglect she had faced. Despite her ordeal, Honey found comfort in the back seat of the car, unaware that she was en route to a loving forever home.

A New Beginning

Upon reaching Illinois, the sisters dedicated themselves to Honey’s care, addressing her needs with gentle baths and tick removal. Honey’s initial hesitation gave way to trust, and she began to explore her new surroundings with tentative steps.

Settling In

Honey’s transformation was remarkable. From the confines of her bed in a spare room, she ventured into the living room, finding solace in the family’s presence. Her newfound habit of following Amanda from room to room was a testament to the bond they had formed.
