Some dogs just seem destined for great things. Take Griffon, for instance. This 6-month-old pup spent what felt like a lifetime roaming the streets, almost losing hope of ever finding a loving home.
But fate had other plans for Griffon. His journeys brought him straight to the heart of an unlikely savior — at an international naval base.
A compassionate U.S. Naval Commander came across the forlorn pup and knew right away that the base wasn’t a place for a young dog to be.
Recalling his unit’s guiding principle, “Those who arrive alive, leave alive,” he felt a responsibility to ensure the little dog’s safety.

News of Griffon’s arrival quickly spread around the base. The Commander, now Griffon’s protector, found that the young dog wasn’t just content with one friend — he was making himself known and loved by everyone.
The bond between the two grew strong, with Griffon shadowing the Commander’s every move, filling every day with a bit of joy.

The kind-hearted Commander, whose name remains private, has chosen to make Griffon a permanent part of his life.
He plans to bring the pup back to the U.S. once his tenure at the base ends. Gary Baumann from the Paws of War charity spoke highly of the cheerful Griffon, noting his friendliness to both humans and fellow dogs and his healthy appetite.
“Griffon is truly a remarkable dog,” said Baumann.

Plans are underway for a heartfelt reunion. Baumann revealed, “The Commander hails from Maryland and has a loving family eagerly awaiting to embrace Griffon into their home.”
