After spending 372 days in the shelter, a dog saved from euthanasia finally finds a forever home

Major embarks on a journey with his new guardian.

For an animal shelter, the pinnacle of joy is witnessing the adoption of a pet, especially one that’s lingered with them for an extended period. The day of jubilation arrived for Major, a dog who endured a year at the shelter after narrowly escaping euthanasia.

As per ABC Chicago, Major and his sibling, Hilo, were saved from a perilous fate at an animal control facility in Quincy, Illinois. The two were on the brink of euthanasia when the Naperville Area Humane Society intervened.

However, upon arriving at the shelter, the brothers found it challenging to secure a forever home. A year ticked by, and potential adopters overlooked them. The humane society depicted Major as a lively, spirited, and treat-loving dog but advised against placing him in homes with young kids, cats, or other dogs.

In the face of adversity, the shelter clung to the hope that the perfect home awaited Major. To bolster this sentiment, they dedicated a special day in his honor, dubbing it “Major’s Day.” This occasion served to spotlight their long-term residents in dire need of loving families.

Then, 372 days since Major’s arrival at the shelter, the awaited moment came. The Naperville Area Humane Society gleefully announced his adoption. Heartwarming footage reveals shelter staff lining the exit, bidding Major an emotional farewell.

The video culminates in Major hopping into a semi-truck alongside his new guardian, a truck driver. This marked the start of Major’s exciting journey, one that promises adventures across the nation.

NAHS expressed their elation, stating they were “thrilled to witness another long-term resident finally leaving the shelter.”

“We’re eager to see where life’s journey takes you, Major.”

We’re overjoyed that Major found a home! Wishing him a wonderful life as he explores the nation with his new guardian.
