Everyone can feel welcomed and embraced at the Safe in Austin Rescue Ranch in Texas.
powerful survivor
That’s because the farm’s animals also have unique requirements or are maltreated and neglected survivors.
So, meeting a rescued turkey with a “lucky claw” like Priscilla when Harper Wulms, a child with a congenital hand malformation, visits the farms can have a healing impact.
The sanctuary’s founder, Jaime Wallace-Griner, told The Washington Post, “There is something incredibly amazing about watching a child with differences come out here and say, ‘They’re just like me. That just does so much for Harper’s heart to watch her holding Priscilla’s lucky hand in her own lucky hand.
a refuge for animals with specific needs
animals that might have otherwise been neglected or put to death.
“We have animals who are blind or deaf, have diabetes, cerebral palsy, abnormalities, missing limbs, damaged spines… they all become part of our family,” Wallace-Griner added.
Introducing Halo
Halo, a Great Pyrenees puppy, is one of the creatures you might encounter at the refuge.
A breeder determined Halo couldn’t be utilized and left her in a box.
Halo was fortunately saved by Wallace-Griner and treated properly.
Halo ultimately needed to have her hind limb severed and her front two rebuilt.
like everyone else
Wallace-Griner noted that she didn’t appear to be conscious of her differences from the other dogs, though.
She’s always been a sweet girl with a cheerful disposition.
brand-new legs
Halo used to get about by hopping, but she recently obtained a set of OrthoPets prosthetic legs.
The cutest thing happened when she first used her new legs.
“I am at a loss for words. “I can’t believe it,” Wallace-Griner posted on Facebook.
