Jessica Blount became an online sensation after rescuing a stray kitten during a recent cold snap in Texas.

It all began when Jessica noticed three stray cats shivering in the cold. She couldn’t bear to leave these vulnerable creatures in such harsh conditions, so she decided to bring them home.

Unfortunately, she was only able to rescue one – a precious gray kitten her daughter lovingly named Spinach.

Explaining the reason behind this interesting name, Jessica shared in an interview:

“My daughter named the cat Spinach because her favorite book is Adventures in Fosterland, featuring a cat named Spinach that looks exactly like the one that we brought into our home.”

At first, Spinach stayed in Jessica’s daughter’s room. The family already had a calico cat named Princess and wanted to keep these two apart until Spinach settled in and completed all his check-ups.

However, this didn’t take long as Spinach quickly made himself at home as if he had always belonged there.

Jessica’s daughter couldn’t resist Spinach’s charm and instantly fell in love with him. Yet, she wasn’t the only one. Soon, the entire family was smitten with their newest furry member.

Jessica captured Spinach ‘taking over’ their home and shared the footage on TikTok, instantly melting hearts worldwide.

Although Jessica only intended to give this freezing soul temporary shelter from the cold, it was clear that Spinach found his forever home.

Numerous TikTok users, amazed by Jessica’s rescue story, suggested that Spinach has chosen his new family.

One user had an interesting remark, saying: “You have been chosen. Accept it, and love on. The cat distribution system is working hard to fulfill your unspoken wish. You are loved.”

Just like that, Spinach went from a vulnerable kitten shivering in the cold to a confident boy basking in the warmth of a loving home.

He received his initial vaccinations and was scheduled for spaying. Even though he was a bit apprehensive about the vet visit, he seemed content and happy.

However, not everyone was thrilled with Spinach’s arrival. Princess was a bit resistant to his presence, asserting her territory with gentle hissing.

This poor kitty seemed jealous and probably a little offended, as if thinking ‘Am I not enough for you?’ Jessica explained:

“[Princess] is pretty set in her ways and she knows the cat is there, so she has let it know a few times through light hissing that this was her home first.”

Nevertheless, Jessica understood that Princess needed time to adjust and was confident she would eventually calm down.

In a recent video she posted, we can see that Princess and Spinach slowly warm up to each other and it seems they’re starting to become good friends.

Blount’s rescue of Spinach is part of her broader efforts to tackle the stray cat population issue. She is particularly concerned about the dumping problem in East Texas, where animals are often abandoned without being spayed or neutered, sharing:

“There is a massive dumping issue in East Texas and little to no funds to help with the issue.”
