At the age of two, Cheech was found living on the streets of Texas and was taken to a sizable neighborhood shelter. Then he was saved by the City of Waller Animal Shelter and Rescue. Cheech rapidly disproved staff’s assumptions that because he was so young, he was scared or frightened in his new environment.
Shortly after getting to the shelter, Cheech started making the cutest, craziest face in his kennel. Some employees and volunteers thought he wasn’t simply being humorous; they thought he was miserable.
Director of the City of Waller Animal Shelter and Rescue Leah Sipe said, “I walked inside the kennel to look at him and shouted for the other volunteers to come look.” When I put my hand in the cage, I feared they would faint because they thought I was crazy and he was growling. He’s as nice as they come, I guess.
Sipe posted a picture of Cheech grinning on the shelter’s Facebook page in order to share his beautiful smile with the rest of the world, and the internet instantly fell in love with him. Over 7,000 people shared the article, and the happy dog soon had over 50 adoption requests.
The shelter was overjoyed that so many people wanted to adopt little Cheech…
After sorting through the absurdly large number of applications Cheech received, the crew discovered the ideal applicant. An applicant’s other dog, Dusty, was in despair after the applicant just lost one of her pets to cancer. He required a new friend to get him through this difficult time.
and it became clear after meeting Cheech that the two would make a fantastic couple. Everyone who is familiar with Cheech is ecstatic that he has found the ideal family.
A former jail is being converted into the City of Waller Animal Shelter and Rescue, which is spanking new. On November 12th, the shelter will formally open, and because of Cheech and his endearing smile, there will undoubtedly be a long line of people waiting to adopt the facility’s puppies.
