Cathleen the dog was given to a new owner in Prague, Oklahoma, about 20 miles away, after her previous owners migrated and were unable to keep her.
Cathleen, 6, had lived with her family since she was a puppy, so she decided to take matters into her own hands because she missed them so much.
She stepped nonchalantly from her new yard onto the street last week. She was on her way home.
Only Cathleen is aware of how she completed the 20-mile walk without incident. She was returned to her new owner, but after a few days she tried it again since she was so eager to find her family.
MATTINGLY REMEMBERED, “WHEN SHE WAS FIRST TAKEN IN, WE BASICALLY RETURNED HER TO THE PLACE HER OWNERS HAD GIVEN HER TO.” “FOLLOWING THE SECOND TIME, WE THOUGHT SHE’D BE SAFER FINDING A MORE SECURE HOME A LITTLE FURTHER AWAY,”
Cathleen was examined by a veterinarian and given the all-clear; she was then adopted right away. The workers at the shelter instantly warmed to her, and applications began to flood in.
“SHE’S AMAZING – REALLY QUIET, GREAT WITH OTHER DOGS, AND LOVES ALL HUMANS,” MATTINGLY ADDED. “OUR LOCAL NEWS STATION BROADCAST A SEGMENT ON HER, AND WE STARTED GETTING CALLS FROM ALL OVER THE NATION. She’s a pretty nice, chill lady.
Cathleen will be able to play with several young children and four dog siblings in Texas. She has acres of secure yard space to explore, which is the most important thing.
Mattingly is confident Cathleen will enjoy her visit.
MATTINGLY said, “HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE READY TO DRIVE THOUSANDS OF MILES TO ADOPT HER WAS UNBELIEVABLE. There is only one Catherine, despite the fact that we received many excellent applications from across the globe. AT LAST, SHE FOUND THE RIGHT FAMILY.
