Despite the fact that Keith Walker has been homeless since he was just 13 years old, he gave the W-Underdogs shelter’s residents a superhero-like performance one December night.

Within the Atlanta homeless shelter, the 53-year-old is well known. Walker’s Pit Bull Bravo has been spending the nights at the shelter thanks to W-Underdogs founder Gracie Hamlin. Walker comes back in the early hours to walk Bravo.

Walker first observed the facility in flames while making one of those early morning returns.

Walker stepped toward the fire without a second’s hesitation.

I won’t deny that I was extremely anxious. Considering all the smoke, I was very afraid to enter. However, God sent me to that location to save those animals, he told CNN. “If you can love a dog, then you can love anyone in the world. I knew I had to save all those other dogs because my dog is my best friend and I wouldn’t be here without him.

Each animal still present in the shelter, including six dogs and ten cats, was brought out by Walker.

He is my protector angel, Hamlin told CNN. The firefighters themselves refused to handle the dogs. Although Keith was already inside the structure removing the cats and dogs until everyone was safe, animal control was called instead.

Despite having sustained too much damage to house any animals, the W-Underdogs building is still standing today. Fortunately, the relocation to a new location was only a week or so away for the shelter.

Walker has ensured that residents of the previous W-Underdogs shelter will also be waiting for adoption at the new facility.

Hamlin said of Walker, “I can’t express enough gratitude for saving my animals. I’ve been around fires before, so I am aware of how quickly they can flare up. I’m still in shock. To me, he is a hero.
