Regrettably, some breeders neglect to consider any potential health problems that may result from breeding dogs. He is a mix of a Chihuahua and a Dachshund, and Piglet’s parents are both speckled. When two dogs of this color are crossed, there is a 25% possibility that the offspring will be “double dapples,” which is commonly associated with the puppy being either entirely or partially blind and deaf. Piglet is one of those puppies that is utterly blind and deaf, but that doesn’t stop him.

The Piglet’s history

In a Georgia hoarding situation, Piglet and 37 other puppies were discovered. He arrived in Connecticut and was greeted by Melissa Shapiro, a veterinarian. Piglet was originally going to be Shapiro’s foster child, but she fell in love with him right away. She realized that she was his rightful home after just two months of caring for him.

Though he already had six puppies, Shapiro was happy to get a new one. Piglet requires a lot of work from her, but it’s all worthwhile because of him.

The care of Piglet first appeared to be a full-time job. As he was so dedicated to Shapiro, he shouted whenever he was anxious, which was frequently. Since he experienced severe separation anxiety if she left the house, Shapiro was unable to even leave him alone for the first month.

Piglet began to develop a routine and feel more at ease after a few months in his forever home. He enjoys spending time with his brothers when playing, going for hikes, and accompanying Shapiro on work trips. He was determined to lead a happy life as a dog despite his odd requirements.

Inspirational Piglet’s Comeback

A third grade teacher in Plainville, Massachusetts was moved by the story of Piglet and decided to relay it to her students. Piglet’s optimistic approach and how it helped him get through challenges were topics she brought up. He also urges children to celebrate variety and embrace it.

In order to maintain a “Piglet frame of mind” and determine how to respond to problems, the students use Piglet as a growth mindset tool. The hand-drawn cards the kids regularly send to Piglet are well-liked by Shapiro and Piglet.

Piglet and his family routinely host fundraising events for rescue canines with certain requirements. They provide many Piglet products for sale, such as t-shirts, magnets, stickers, and bags. Almost $30,000 has already been raised by them.
